Elizabeth
Tiefenthaler loves good friends and good stories and knows how to recognize
both. That's why she has decided to start a self-publishing
empire. Well ok, two books. But anyone who knows her knows that, as long
there are good stories to tell and talented people to tell them, she'll
find a way to put the people together.
Perhaps Liz got this penchant for discovering peoples' abilities and giving them the tools they need to realize their potential during her years as a schoolteacher. Her three children can also be pointed to as a success. And, as marketing director of Kramer Printing, which she co-owns with her husband of more than 32 years, Todd Tiefenthaler, she has even more resources to champion a talent pool of book-writing talent. But why a book about Anguilla? As the story goes, Liz was flying home from an island vacation when she overheard a woman talking about perhaps the last unspoiled island paradise in the Caribbean. It was unspoiled in every sense; undeveloped land and kind, polite and generous people with a hard forged national identity they were determined to preserve, despite the temptation to cash in on paradise. This was in the late 80s and Anguilla was just beginning to develop an infrastructure of resorts and tourist facilities. But even today, with its mix of world-class resort hotels and intimate villas, it still seems like an unspoiled and strongly personal paradise. It's that individual nature that absolutely demanded a small and personal book about Anguilla. Other islands may be able to brag about their casinos, shopping and crowded facilities but Anguilla never brags. Anguilla just welcomes you in and engages you from the first moments of your visit. In these ways Anguilla is already a good book unwritten. Liz recognized that and simply put the tools together for the book to come about naturally. |
Spring 2005: An excerpt from the book review in Anguilla Life Magazine, Spring 2005, Vol. XVIII, Number 1, written by Rita Celestine Carty:
"Anguilla: A Shorter Sleeved Way of Life is all about sensations – sensory details and emotions, tangible and intangible, conscious and subliminal – all are called into play. This book is the product of the perfect collaboration of a good eye and a gifted pen. You should get yourself one. It's beautiful!"
